The Greatest Excavated Weapon in Our Collection: Rigdon & Ansley Confederate Revolver
This amazing artifact was found some 50 years ago in Northern Virginia. On its brass frame the number 1868 is clearly stamped on the trigger guard and butt plate. The hammer is frozen in the fully cocked position indicating the Confederate soldier was ready to fire when perhaps he was hit. Very rarely do excavated relics still have their original wood, but in this case, they have been remarkably preserved. This revolver was pictured in an article in the July-Aug. 1977 issue of North South Trader. A statement of provenance from 1990 is included.
Having attended Civil War shows for the past 50 years, this is the first excavated Rigdon & Ansley we have observed. A once in a lifetime opportunity.
