Nice Example of “The Daily Citizen” Vicksburg, Mississippi – Wallpaper Edition

We are not sure of how many souvenir copies The Daily Citizen printed after the war… and not sure of when they printed them. We have seen 3 or 4 different wallpaper styles and the example we are offering has a nice southern plantation look to it.

In the bottom right corner is printed:

“This is the last wallpaper edition, and is, excepting this note, from the types as we found them. It will be valuable hereafter as a curiosity.”

Most of the examples we have seen are in horrible condition due to the quality of the paper. Back when the owner of our example purchased it, he wrote at the top, “Last print of the Rebel press in Vicksburg”… adding a nice “souvenir” quality to our piece. One great way to display the paper is to photocopy a portion of the wallpaper back (so that you do not need to “fold over” one of the corners). That is what we did and will send our photocopy along with the item. Condition: Much better than any others we have seen.

A fine Civil War souvenir.
