12th Ga. Confederate Officers Pay Voucher – Captain Mark Harden from Blandford, Ga. – Went on to Serve in 2nd Confederate Congress & a Justice in the Supreme Court of Georgia
This partially filled in document measures 9 ¼ x 8 inches. At the top is, “The Confederate States of America”. This document is dated October 31st, 1862 and signed twice by Blandford with his regiment and rank, and once by Capt. H. T. Massengale, Quartermaster, Army of Tennessee.
Blandford, a veteran of the Mexican War, served in the 12th Georgia, which participated in Jackson’s Valley Campaign, at Cheat Mountain and the Seven Days, as well as most of the other major engagements of the Army of Northern Virginia. By the time of the Seven Days, or shortly after, Blandford had left the army. He represented Georgia in the Second Confederate Congress, 1864-1865, and served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia in 1872. Very fine condition.
