Famous 19th Mass. Vols. I.D. Disc – Lists Two Battles including Antietam, the Bloodiest One Day Battle of the War, Private George H. Patch was Captured at Antietam
This I.D., about the size of a quarter, features Major General Geo. H. McClellan War of 1861 on one side, and on the other side:
G. H. PATCH
CO. I.
19TH MASS. V.
ANTIETAM
GLENDALE
W. LITTLETON, MASS.
George enlisted on August 24th, 1861 and was captured at Antietam on September 17th, 1862. He was released on November 1st, 1862 and mustered out on August 24th, 1864. The 19th Mass. was heavily engaged at Antietam, in the West Wood, at Fredericksburg crossing the river in boats under fire and in the assault on Marye’s Heights, and at Gettysburg it was heavily engaged near the Copse of Trees capturing four Confederate flags.
This tag was well worn throughout the Civil War. Used but not abused. It exhibits a fine, uncleaned patina. This is the only 19th Mass. I.D. we have ever owned. The 19th along with the 20th Mass. were two of the Civil War’s greatest regiments.
