Excavated I.D. Disc from the Battle of Gettysburg – Thomas J. Wood, Co. I, 2nd Delaware Infantry – He was wounded on July 2nd, 1863 – “WHEN ALL THE OFFICERS OF HIS REGIMENT WERE DISABLED OR KILLED, HE ACTED AS COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT”

This is the only Delaware I.D. disc that we have owned! A rare Gettysburg find. The archive records list him as “wounded, serious”. There is just a hint of gold wash still remaining and the I.D. of course shows the expected excavated corrosion. The stamping is:
SERGNT. J. WOOD
CO. H
2
REG
DEL. VOLS.
WILMINGTON
While Wood survived his Gettysburg wounds, in looking under “Find a Grave” we read the following which occurred on August 23rd, 1894: He was struct by a Pennsylvania train at Market Street in Chester last night and died in the Chester Hospital!
