Rare broadside entitled, “CAMP OF 5th VIRGINIA VOL. INFANTRY U.S.A.” – “OUR CHAPLAIN” – Shows the Chaplain playing his hand organ as the men sing along!

This broadside measuring approximately 10 x 11 ½ inches has the typical aging but is in much finer condition shown on the Internet (wvhistoryonview.org).  We will also include a copy photograph of the Chaplain to display with it.

Under the title of the broadside is the location “Falls of Kanawha, West Virginia 1864” (Remember West Virginia became a state in 1863).  The broadside shows a fantastic engraving of the men of the regiment singing along as the Chaplain plays his portable pump organ.  Underneath the engraving is printed:

 “OUR CHAPLAIN
Gives each of us a copy of this Engraving, to show our friends the way we sing and hold meetings in camp. He desires us to tell them to pray for us and him, that we may prove faithful to our country and our God, and not be found wanting in any day of temptation and trial.”

A rare, colorful piece for display.  It is tastefully matted.  Overall measuring 15 x 18 inches.
