Original Soldier Art -William Ku Russell, Co. E 22nd N. Y. Volunteers in “Camping in the Woods”

Russell, a 19-year-old accomplished artist from Glens Falls, N. VII sent this 10 inch x 7 inch pen and ink drawing to Harper’s Weekly, stating:

Sir,
I send this sketch of a camp in woods, thinking it might prove interesting to the readers of your Weekly. It represents how we sheltered ourselves in the woods near Falmouth, (expecting every moment to cross the river) till we got orders to return to our old camp.
