I.D. Disc from the 14th Brooklyn, “The Red Legged Devil’s” – Julius Scudder, Co. C

Julius enlisted on August of 1862 and fought in all the major battles of the 14th Brooklyn (also called it 84th New York Infantry) until the regiment was mustered out in June of 1864.  At this time Julius transferred into the 5th New York Infantry.  The disc is of the “AGAINST REBELLION, UNION WITH SHIELD, 1861” variety.  On the front is stamped:

At the battle of Gettysburg, the 14th received the highest official praise for its gallantry in action.  At Gettysburg it fought in the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division of the 1st Corps and suffered a loss of 217.  The disc has a beautiful uncleaned mellow patina.
