Letter & Cover from Confederate Soldier G. W. Flowers, A Prisoner at Rock Island Prison – Great “Examined” Cover & Letter
We do not often find nice examined covers that have clear EXAMINED stampings along with the original enclosure. G. W. Flowers was a member of Company B in the 6th Arkansas Infantry. He was probably captured during the Chickamauga, Ga./Lookout Mountain Campaign in late 1863 and ended up in Rock Island Prison in Illinois.
He is writing to a kind woman who lived in Rockford, Illinois who helped various Confederate soldiers in their destitute condition. Here is the content:
